A Gift
Jason lives a life full of wealth and privilege. When his grandfather dies, Jason expects to receive a large inheritance. Instead his grandfather's will has him set out on a journey of the real meaning of life in order to earn the gift his grandfather meant him to have. Jan and I watched "The Ultimate Gift" one rainy night on TV.
We harvested corn on a sunny Monday and a no rain cloudy Tuesday, delivering to both the processor and the bin. Then we spent Wednesday-Friday hauling corn to Eddyville in the rain.
A farm shop with good help is a gift. And many rainy day projects help good weather become more efficient.
I've seen more zero turn lawn mowers stuck this past week than all my previous summers combined. It's been a challenge keeping yards under control.
After another 3 inches of rain this past week the gift of sunshine came out on Friday. BJ found some advice given 3000 years ago by King Solomon. Apparently he experienced weather problems back then as well.
So yesterday morning, Ezra, home from Dordt University for a few days, and I decided we would try and take out our test plot across the road. It is well tiled and went well.
Pressure uncovers purpose. And purpose is found in the journey, not the destination. Meaning; farming is a gift, and our purpose is found in the process of harvest, and not the accomplishment of it. Yesterday afternoon we loaded trucks for Monday delivery, and it was a process.
Earlier this past week Ella was riding in the semi with her husband John, hauling in corn. On Wednesday John and Ella were blessed with the gift of a son, Ryder John. John is BJ and Cassia's 3rd born. Sitting with John and Ryder is Rachel and Carson's, Rosie, deciding whether her new cousin is a keeper. 😊
Our Labor Day move, my hospital stay, and 14 inches of rain in the past 30 days have been part of our journey. And as crazy as it sounds, it's been good. There is little growth in our comfort zones. My life has again ratcheted down some. I enjoyed this sunset Friday evening from our cabin window. Our "ultimate gift" and inheritance is Christ's salvation and heaven if we acknowledge and accept it. That gift comes with help, grace, love, and purpose while we are still on our journey here on earth.
