This is Kurt and Emily's, Lane. At three years old he decided he was going to ride motorcycles, just like his older brothers. Now, at four, he's racing them.
Last Sunday afternoon a number of our family came to the Morgan farm to ride together. The Dads and the older boys rode a two and a half mile track through the trees. While the younger riders stayed on a closer, shorter track.
Sydnie, Natalie, Brynn, and some of the rest of us just enjoyed the day watching. After a couple of hours of riding the crew came to the farm shop for supper together.
Karl is watching Alex, Malaki, and Jim as we overhaul our second corn head. He had surgery to reattach a nerve in his hand Monday that he had cut on a fall in the hog shed.
We had to call Steve from Midtown a couple of times this past week. Below he is repairing a scraper tire. We also had another flat on the mower tractor. While mowing custom CRP acres a stick went through the sidewall, ruining the tire.
We have visited before about tackling cleaning, sorting, and reorganizing our parts room above our shop office. On Monday eight grandkids helped me bring down around 130 containers. Our goal is to have a container for each piece of equipment we use.
Jan bought us 60 new containers on sale at Costco. Now the hard job of what to throw away, since some of these items have been just sitting up there for years, what to reorganize, and what to add so we are ready for the harvest season.
On Friday evening our oldest grandson, Gideon, and Emily were married at Calvary church in Pella. Emily is a really neat gal that loves the Lord. She, her siblings, and her parents lived just east of Pella. Her grandparents live in Leighton where cousin Bill and Noreen used to live. This picture isn't necessarily the perfect pose, however it means a lot to me because it shows God's faithfulness to our family. I'm next to Jan taking the picture. The next generation, BJ, and his family are sitting in front of us. And the 3rd generation is in front promising with God's help to serve Him and each other for the rest of their lives.
I realize some of you would like to have seen the whole wedding party. The best I can do is add a candid picture of the gals. Deann, mother of the bride. Karen, grandmother of the bride. And some of Emily's friends and family who stood up with her.
So what's this family believe we are? Available. Hardworking. Loyal. Making things happen. Sometimes unorganized. Always impromptu. Unafraid. And all these things through undeserved merit (grace) under the cross of our Lord Jesus. Just like the picture shows. We are getting lined up for a family picture just after the ceremony.
Last Sunday morning after our visit I went up on the hill to watch the sunrise. The gift of another day, and the beginning of an eventful week. If we were to have to rely on our own strength and expertise I would be a dismal failure, including our crop. God has the ability to take care of us no matter where it does or doesn't rain. No matter what the commodity prices are. With the last 2 weeks of dry weather, and with the upcoming forecast of heat, I'm guessing corn harvest will begin in about two weeks.
So how does this visit fit in with the heartache, health issues, and loss our community has experienced this past week? To Christians it's called hope. And not just I hope so. But an assurance that our Lord and Savior loves us all and promises to be at our side and in our business if we ask. Not only here during this brief time we're here on earth. But also we can face eternity with absolute certainty. When we believe that, it totally changes and effects who we are.
