It's very early and I'm listening to it rain after a bumpy, stormy night. As I think back on our field work progress over the last two weeks I'm reminded of this day 29 years ago. It was a Friday and we had not been to the field yet that spring. I took Jan to the hospital and we had a 10 lb. 15 oz. little girl. Happy Birthday Becky.
Last week we visited about the little spot in time we live down here on earth and why we are here. This spring I'm putting in my 38th crop. Other than the character building years of droughts or floods I can't remember much about those crops but I certainly remember the folks in my life during those years.
I"ll share with you a few pictures of those folks and their responsibilities this spring.
Generally the folks that get the ground ready also seed waterways, run seed, parts, and fuel, and help customers.
Since the dozers were caught up this spring due to working all winter we had enough help to run three planters.
Keeping our own planted acres sprayed as well as custom spraying is a demanding job.
Living our purpose is not just putting in a crop. It's folks that care about each other, giving 110%, sharing resonsibility, accomplishing jobs together when things are going well, and even praying together when things might not be quite so clear.
Rick and I met just about a year ago. He made an announcement this week that he was going take some time to be a father. He has certainly served a purpose in being a voice in our election process.
I received a call from an out of town son of one of our old neighbors that had died. He said they were not planning a funeral, just a few words at the cemetary, and asked if the five boys and I would be pallbearers from the funeral home to the cemetary. I told the son we would consider it a priveledge to do that. Other than the out of town family and our family their were four attendees at the cemetary.
A job like that makes a person think. When folks carry me to the cemetary will I have accomplished God's purpose for me while I was living. My prayer and my goal is that while I'm living I value my faith, my family, and my friends, while enjoying the opportunity God has given me to farm.
