Are You Kidding Me?

We have had some beautiful evenings and pretty sunsets this fall. A couple of nighttime freezes have taken care of the bugs and the weeds. We are experiencing my favorite time of year, Indian Summer. Harvest is wrapped up for the most part and the weather is allowing us to do all those other jobs. Since this week's pictures of our activities are pretty well self explanatory I'm going to share an embarrassing story with you that is totally unrelated to all but the last picture.
Earlier this week the William Penn University Board of Directors used our cabin for an all day meeting. Jan worked with Sherri and Jeanie the day before to help with arrangements.
Jan had plans for the day of their event so around 5 pm as most folks were leaving I thought maybe I had better check in and ask if Sherri needed anything. About a dozen folks or so were still visiting and Sherri said to me "I would like you to meet Tommy."

Tommy and his wife were very cordial and we talked about their ranch in Oklahoma and our families. While we were visiting someone asked us if they could take our picture. I was quite sure they weren't taking it because of the cabin host but I still didn't know who I was talking to.

Someone called for the general and the gentleman stepped away. I asked his wife if her husband had served in the military and she assured me he had.
Next I asked her how folks from Oklahoma were associated with Penn College and she said she and her husband were friends with Joe and Jeanie and often flew internationally together. Well Joe is the primary owner of Musco Lighting and I had never met him before either so Mrs. Tommy takes me over and introduces me to Joe.

After introductions and some conversation I told Joe I had met his friends from Oklahoma but had missed their names and asked who they were. He said "That's General Tommy Franks. He was Commander and Chief for all US troops after 9/11. He was in charge of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Wow. All I remember saying was, "Are you kidding me?" I'm sure everyone there had to think I was the most naive redneck on earth. What a privilege to be able to meet and visit with General and Mrs. Tommy Franks.
