Visiting Arizona

One of things Jan and I look forward to doing together is spending a week in Arizona sort of celebrating our anniversary. The weather is cooler with temps in the sixties but the senery is always bueatiful.Align Right

We attended a Baptist church Sunday morning in Chandler close to where we are staying. They had three morning services.



One of the fun activities while on our visit to Phoenix was attending a Ritchie Bros. heavy equipment auction. Since everything we buy while while we're here must fit in a suitcase on an airplane Jan didn't have to worry about me buying anything.
I was able to get a Phoenix Raceway pitpass while attending a race there. It was fun to watch up close and even talk to folks in the pit.

Jan and I drove to the southern Arizona border one day and walked into Old Mexico. I asked Hebron if we could take his picture. He sells leather goods to provide for his wife and five daughters. When we met him last year during a similar visit he told me stories of his families life in Mexico.



Yuma is always a favorite place to visit. It's part of the Imperial Valley just across the river from southern California and is an agricultural town raising all kinds of vegtables.

After a couple of rain showers last week the country side is covered in corn tassels. In early mornings and late evenings you can smell the tassels and silks as the corn plant starts the process of making an ear.   The smell of corn tassels is a gift, announcing things are happening. Leave The Rest To Him

Memorial Day is past. The crop is growing. The weather is warm. Our 2nd full moon of the month welcomed me up this morning. It's called a blue moon. And it's wedding season. Amelia and Tysen were married Monday. I snagged a picture of them with their parents, Randy and Jodi, and Stacy and Mark. "Direct your children on the right path. And when they get older, they will not leave it". Proverbs 22:6. As parents we raise our kids with love, boundaries, responsibilities, and a care for others. When they become adults and become their own family, we promise them support, we respect their independence, we pray for them, we bless them like these parents are doing at Monday's wedding, and we leave the rest to God. A Lasting Impact

Harvest has started earlier this fall in southern Iowa. Test weight is not an issue. Moisture has nose dived due to dead plants as a result of southern rust. Yields are ok to good in the non fungicide sprayed fields, and great in fields sprayed with fungicides. Southern rust started blowing in from southern United States in late July. We don't see this disease often here. With a wetter summer and warm dewy nights, it decided to stay, grow, and spread. A fungicide application was effective for postponing the plant death it caused. Stalk quality will be an issue later in the harvest season. This post reminded me of last week's story. 1974 was my first crop after Walter passed away. I sold corn for $3.30/bu. that fall to Warder and Lee Elevator in Webster, Iowa. Since I was a senior in high school, and had few living expenses, I took my year's profit and bought a new 1974 Chevy Scotsdale 3/4 ton pickup from La Franz Chevrolet. The sticker price was $5200.
