Thanks Dad For The Gift

It's starting to look alot like Christmas in Iowa this morning with blowing snow, dropping temperatures, howling winds, and cancelled church. Christmas and gifts naturally go together. At our house Jan usually buys the Christmas gifts. So you might be thinking what's this "Dads and gifts" thing about? This is about Dads giving time to their kids, not just while working but also during the fun times. Cody enjoys being on the football field while Mike coaches. In this picture Mike is assuring him he still has all his teeth.
Mark enjoys riding and racing motorcycles on his abandoned coalmine land with his family. Occasionally he and his family attend racing events and participate competively. Here Mark is giving Ethan some pointers as Ethan waits on the starting line.

When BJ bought a modified race car I wasn't impressed. But what I was impressed about was that he used racing for family time, not family for racing time. Because of his workload and other family commitments I think the car only went out twice this year. This is Gideon and BJ at the Southern Iowa Raceway.

Brian is a pastor with a busy schedule and that busyness generally involves giving of his time and talents to his occupation. Yet he makes a consious effort to give his boys quality attention. This was a picture taken this summer just before an event in Sully.

Earlier this past week my father stopped by during Customer Days for coffee and to bring me our Christmas gift. Even as I appreciate his gift today I appreciate more the gifts of giving me responsibility when I was a kid, teaching me generousity, and showing me the gift of caring for others from both my parents.

This is the time of year when we remember Our Heavenly Father's gift to us, our livelihood, our families, and most of all his Son, our Savoir. I need to remember to thank Him.
