Life In Between

Fieldwork this spring has happened in spurts in between rainy spells. Fortunately folks have been productive during the dry spells.
Last Monday we received two inches of rain. It has also been cooler than normal. So we had a slower week.
Mike was able to build a terrace on pasture land.
We worked on keeping machinery in tip top shape.
A number of farmers came to pick up their soybean seed in preparation for the next round of planting.
This has been a week of graduation parties. Congratulations to Lucas, Aaron, and Cory. Thanks for the picture Sue. High School graduation is a transition between living at home and being on your own heading in a certain career direction.
Since it has been a slower week Brad and Julie got the camper out and enjoyed a weekend camping with their girls and friends.
We have a tradition at our church on Mothers Day where the men sing a special number for the gals.
Folks in southern Iowa enjoy mushroom hunting. Mushrooms are generally found in between dead wood in a timber and are hard to spot.
Karl noticed an antler shed while spraying earlier so he and I took advantage of the wet weather and hunted until we found it.
Jan found a goose nest in between cattails.

When I was a kid Canadian geese were just about extinct. Today they are just about a nuisance.
One of the benefits of custom work is the friendships our family gets to have with the folks we work for. We have helped Evelyn and her son Mark for 20 years.
Evelyn lost her battle with cancer and we attended her funeral this past week. I will miss her visits to the field during a meal of buffalo burgers.
Next weekend is Memorial Day when we remember those who are no longer with us.
Just like farming our lives happen in between spurts. Growing up. Graduation. Family. Career. Retirement. What will folks remember about us when we are gone? Were we productive? Were we friendly? Did we care? Were we helpful? Were we faithful?
