Don't Quit

I think as folks get older they think of the past better than it actually was, the present worse than it actually is, and the future more complicated than it actually will be.
I had my 57th birthday this past week. Years is just a measure of time on a calendar. Age is an attitude.
That attitude can change based on circumstances.
Last Monday we watched as the dark storm clouds rolled  and rumbled over us.
Some days I feel too young to be a grandpa and can tackle the toughest of projects.
And some days I feel so old I look like and even act like a grandpa.
You know your getting older when you start repeating stories from the past. Remember when your grandparents would tell you a story you had already heard a dozen times.
No matter how old we are or feel throughout the ups and downs in life the key is not to quit.
Remember no one can make you feel old without your consent.
I'd like to share a portion of a poem I saw on the wall of an unfinished cabin in Colorado one time.
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road your trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low, and the debts are high, When you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, rest if you must but don't you quit.
Success is failure turned inside out, the silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far. So stick to the fight when your hardest hit, It's when things seem worse that you must not quit.

The word for "don't quit" in the Bible is persevere. James says, Blessed is the man who doesn't quit under pressure. Because he has stood the test, he will receive the crown that God has promised to those who love Him. James is talking about our words, our actions, our character, and finally our destiny.
So have a good week, don't quit, and until we visit again remember to watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
