Cause I'm Worn

As I was walking into the shop one morning this past week Mike said, "hey dad, did you know we are out of coffee?" Well, there are a lot of things we can do without however coffee isn't one of them. I told Mike I'd go back to the house and see what I could come up with. I found these little gold bags that said things like Chocolate Truffle, Caramel Delight, and Northwest Blend.
Although all those names sound like really good desserts none of them got our vote for our early morning cup of coffee. By coffee-time our bookkeeper, Linda had our coffee supply replenished. It's a pity coffee doesn't count when you're supposed to have lots of fluids. It's a pick-me-up for lots of folks.
Even with coffee there are weeks when things don't always go as planned and we sometimes just feel worn out. Sometimes it could be a relationship eating away at us. Or it could be a work load piling up. We may have a loved one we are concerned about. Or we might have a health issue ourselves that's keeping us at less than 100%.
People stress seems to be harder on me than work stress. I've not had any hardcore health stress in my life but I know that can really get a person down. Just recovering from a broken rib the last couple of weeks has made me feel useless. It reminds me to pray for my friends that are really wrestling with cancer and the like.
So many folks have rocks in their lives, many not of their own choosing. It wears on them. Sometimes it's a burden they carry alone. Sometimes God seems far away in those situations. That's when we as fellow human beings need to be the hands and feet of Christ. We need to take the time to notice, care, pray, offer, and encourage those who are worn and weary.
In our churches this morning, especially during this advent season, we will rightfully hear how much our Savior loves us. We respond with our praises, gifts, prayers, and promise to serve Him(love the Lord with all your heart). I feel it's equally important to hear how much we are to love and serve each other(love your neighbor as yourself).
I think our Lord surely must have felt worn and alone on that first Palm Sunday in spite of the cheering crowds. He has tried to explain to to His followers and friends what is going to happen but they don't understand. The church leaders have been accusing Him wrongly and He knows later in the week they will kill Him. Luke 19 says He weeps as He enters the city that day.
As Kurt was checking cows recently one evening he found a newly born calf had died. Losing a calf means you and that mama cow wait a whole nother year. He quickly found a replacement calf to buy from a friend. He, with some help, skinned the dead calf and wrapped the hide around the new calf so the mama cow would accept the new calf as her own.
He worked well into the night trying to get the cow to let her adopted calf nurse without much success. Worn out he finally gave up and headed his pickup for home. The mama accepted the calf the next day. As Kurt was heading home he heard the song below on his pickup radio. He felt God was sharing it with him. The next day he shared it with me. Today I'm sharing it with you.
If you have an extra 3 or 4 minutes take time to listen to or read the words below. Then think about someone with rocks in their lives and are worn that you can pray for and encourage today.

I'm tired
I'm worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes to keep on breathing

I've made mistakes
I've let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world
And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn I want to know a song can rise From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Cause I'm worn

I know I need
To lift my eyes up
But I'm too week
Life just won't let up
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Cause I'm worn

And my prayers are wearing thin
I'm worn even before the day begins
I'm worn I've lost my will to fight
I'm worn so heaven so come and fluid my eyes

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Yes all that's dead inside will be reborn

Though I'm worn
Yeah I'm worn
