Do you remember a country song years ago that said, "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything. You've got to be your own man. Not a puppet on a string. Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name. You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything". Even though it's against the "rules", sometimes you just need to give or receive a hug.
Our mother was moved from our local hospital to a care facility in Montezuma this past week recovering from a broken leg. The nurses all said she was a joy to take care of. Seems ironic since she spent her life taking care of others.
This virus we're all dealing with seems to compromise the health of our elderly. A good thing is it has very little or no effect on our kids and those with healthy immune systems. Kurt and Emily's Jackson and Jayden are enjoying their summer growing up together as brothers.
We were blessed as a community this past week to get together for our local fair. It would have been so convenient for our fair board to cancel in the name of safe. However what's popular is not always right. And what's right is not always popular. The kids had a good time showing their animals and other projects. Allison showed in the open goat class. Thanks for the picture Stacy.
Cousins Anton and Adali showed their dogs Monday evening in an obedience class.
4H teaches kids responsibility. It also creates friendships. Elijah returned to the fair with Daisy who was a bucket/bottle calf last year. Thanks for the picture Stacy.
As I am posting this on a very early Sunday morning the 911 channel on our 2 way in our office is directing a deputy and an ambulance to a level 1 trauma accident. These folks put their lives on the line to keep us safe. I can't imagine folks wanting their law centers de-funded. What's more disturbing is we have leadership in this country applauding and supporting it. It was a good thing this past Wednesday evening to support our sheriffs department by attending and supporting a fundraising meal at the fair. They used our grill. Thanks Russ, Kurt, Brad, Josh, and others.
I may get in trouble for this picture. However it was good as a community to get together and enjoy each other's company. I think churches and schools should follow suit. How long are we going to try and live in isolation and fear? And what exactly are we afraid of?
Kudos to our Southern Iowa Fair Board for standing for something when others were advising them differently. Our community was blessed. Our kids felt good about getting together with their projects. I want to personally thank Jim, Kim, and Hannah. Jim is our boss when we work for Nutrien doing custom application. Kim is on the fair board. And Hannah and her co-worker Jenny keep our crew's paperwork straight when we spray. Hannah was and is our community's and state's fair queen since the 2020 queen padgent was cancelled. Thanks for the picture Hannah.
And yes, our fair folks had all the proper guidelines posted.
What's happening on the farm in July? Well we were able to help get Pablo and Paula's patio poured.
Kurt has been hauling soybeans for others and Alex hauled some corn this week.
Kasey started getting semis ready for fall which will be here before we know it.
Jan is enjoying her garden and has been sharing produce with kids and others.
After the 4H ribbon auction yesterday we baled straw.
Jesus told a story in the Bible about wheat and weeds. A farmer planted good seed. But when the crop began to grow and produce grain the weeds also grew. The farmer's help came to him and asked where the weeds came from and asked if he wanted them to try and pull the weeds. The farmer told them an enemy has planted weeds and no, don't pull the weeds, telling them they would uproot some good wheat as well.
The farmer said to allow them to grow together. And at harvest time the harvesters would sort out the wheat from the weeds and burn the weeds. We have both good and bad in our country today. The bad has been sowed by the enemy. While we wait for the harvest let's not uproot the good while trying to eliminate the bad. Thanks for the visit.
My computer is misbehaving on letter size and font this morning. Sorry.
