Helping Out

Have you been helped out lately? Have you helped someone? Sometimes it's assisting with a project. Other times it's just a smile, greeting, or conversation that helps folks. I had welded some manure pipe couplers together incorrectly and needed to try again. So I went to Alan at Rural Water's shop and he helped out. He and Barb's son Brett manages a local truck repair shop and is also helpful with some of our semi repairs.
It's always helpful when a hot meal comes to the field, especially at night. Cassia and the kids came out the last night of soybean combining. Emily and Jackson also helped out. Kristin had made supper the previous night however I was combining corn at a different location. Jan made breakfast sandwiches one evening that we ate while transitioning from one farm to another. A huge thank you to the gals.
One day when we were combining at Ed and Mary's place, John, a neighbor came out to watch. I was thankful Karl took the time to have a visit with him.
A football team like any other team will not be successful unless the folks on that team care about each other and help each other out. The PC football team is having a great year.
Friday night during a regional game against Sigourney, John helped Jackson play with his farm toys on the stadium steps.
Jackson went to get his little guitar so he could help his daddy play.
Jan and I started doing custom work jobs for others when we were first married in order to supplement our farming income. Today custom farming is a big part of our families operation.
Many families we have helped harvest have lasted over multi generations. Years ago we worked for Everett and Evelyn. Yesterday we harvested corn and put it in the bin for their son Mark
Just like a football team, working with others needs to be a win/win situation. Most of our customers have turned into lifelong friendships.
It seems fellow church member, Andrew, has been in the hospital all fall. His parents, Arvin and Dena, needed to paint his home so friends got together and helped out yesterday.
This is the group that helped paint.
We stopped for good food and conversation at noon.
When I went to Anderson's in Beacon to pick up the pizza for the painting crew the owner and neighbor said "no charge". She wanted to help out. Thank you Becky.
We have a local Christian radio station in our area, 99.9 on the FM dial. They help the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with Christian music and broadcasting. General manager Bev and I went to church and school together growing up. As a parent I am fine with whatever radio station kids choose to listen to however it warms my heart when occasionally I drive one of their vehicles and their radio is on KCWN. This past week the community raised $89,000 in support for Christian broadcasting for another year.
Last Sunday evening Jan and I went and visited the little church in Kirksville. Karl, the corn grader at Cargill/Eddyville is a major part in keeping the church effective in it's community. For decades churches have been the hub of the community in helping others spiritually, socially, and financially.
How is your church doing at bringing folks in and meeting their spiritual, social, and physical needs? Do you wish for a spirit filled church? I was reminded while visiting with a friend yesterday afternoon that when the Holy Spirit came to the first Christians, the apostles eyes were opened and they saw and understood for the first time their mission. Be a helper this week.
