The Best Is Yet To Come

There are days we wake up and feel we can conquer the world and then there are days when every job looks like a mountain. It's on those days that you take life a day and a job at a time.
When you get old enough to get yourself ready for church sometimes you just find what's handy. Nati got to church with one boot and one shoe on.
We had some deferred corn deliveries to haul last week. The roads made me thankful we only live a few miles from Eddyville.
There were a couple of days after our snow when the feed trucks as well as the hog trucks had to be pulled in order to get to Karl and Kristin's shed.
Karl used some slower time late last week to work on the inside of his garage.
Talk about a difficult puzzle. Jan quite often has a puzzle going during the holidays. This 1000 piece one was hard enough she decided to glue it once she had it together with puzzle glue. This puzzle even had square edges that didn't necessarily always go on the outside.
About 2pm yesterday Mark walked his hoe on the yard.
I had thought all week that the old house would come down over Christmas break. However I kept putting off finishing emptying it and figuring out how to reroute our internet which was still on the old 2-way tower.
By 4pm all that was left of 40 years of living and raising a family there were memories.
As I replaced my finished up 2015 calendar full of written notes and reminders about appointments, jobs, and get-togethers; with a new 2016 calendar whose pages are still empty and clean; I wondered to myself what the new year holds in store.
One of my goals for the new year is to spend more time with friends with no agenda other than just to enjoy each others company.
The ability to think things through and make a plan is a gift. I hope to be more organized in 2016.
Many times greeting and visiting with neighbors happens spontaneously. I hope to take the time not just to experience those times but also to see the opportunities for those times.
If we want 2016 to be our best year yet no matter what happens we need to include visits with the Creator of time. Prayer is powerful and effective. God already has 2016 figured out. Why wouldn't we ask Him for His advice. Remember a family that prays "together" stays together. I have the phrase "Ora et labora". on my phone. It means pray and work.
I heard a story recently which a few of you have already heard about an older lady whose time on earth was about over. She called in her Pastor and told him her wishes as far as funeral arrangements; scripture, songs, flowers, and participants. The Pastor gladly promised her he would oblige.
She concluded by saying that in her casket she would like her Bible in one hand and a fork in the other. Surprised, the Pastor asked her why the fork? The older lady told him she remembered at church potlucks when the gals would pick up the plates after dinner they would always say, Don't forget to keep your fork for dessert. She finished, "the best is yet to come".
As we were reminded again yesterday in our community we don't know when our work on earth is over. Spend time together. Make memories. And live life in 2016 as if it could be your last.
And don't forget to keep your fork during your church potluck today because remember; The best is yet to come.
