Good morning. Have you ever come across a situation, a visit, or a realization that warmed your heart, that made you smile, that are just little things, that are many times hard to put into words. This morning I'm going to try and share a few of those nuggets I felt blessed with this week. And John and Glenda, thanks for loaning me a couple of pictures.
It's always a treasure when you get a hopper full before you get all the way across the field.
It's 6am Saturday morning and we are making a plan. Kristin surprises us with carmel rolls and monkey bread. Few things are more appreciated than good food early in the morning. Thanks for the goodies and helping a while Kristin.
Are you kidding me? Am I calling this a treasure? It's not a New Idea. It's a bad idea. Believe it or not I actually have a few fond memories. I repeat a few. We harvested with one of these from 1978 through 1987 from the time I was 22 to 31 years old. I still remember trading in a broken IHC 715 combine with Carl. Jan and I went to Carl and Martha's home one evening and we made the deal in their living room.
I specifically remember one afternoon in 1983. I was asked to go to a Cursillo weekend and I wasn't very crazy about going. I had asked my Dad if he would run my combine. I remember him getting on the 2-way as I was leaving the North 80 and asking me if this combine had survived a flood. I said I didn't think so, why? He said he thought it was old enough that Noah may have driven it.
We leave a legacy with our kids many times when we don't even realize it. Brent and Brian and their Uncle Kevin are helping us haul corn some this fall. Brent and Brian so much remind me of their dad who helped us last fall. Their dad Steve, lost his battle with cancer this past June.
It's always a good feeling to be the last two trucks to unload at Eddyville for the day and to feel blessed to have had another productive week.
What can I say? Few treasures are better than grandkids. Getting used to having grandchildren was easy. Being called Grandpa took a little while to get used to. Now the scary thing is seeing how fast the grandkids are growing up.
This is John and his boys. I have three treasures I value about this family. First, John and Tammi are neat Christian friends with our kids. Second, John and his helper Jesse have been so much help to us hauling corn. And finally Tammi was an inspiration to me and many others when she shared her heart during the battle with cancer and the loss of their oldest son, TJ, a year or two ago. There is a risk in sharing ones heart. It makes one vulnerable. However it can also be a treasure if the sharing is an inspiration to others.
I have written in my Bible somewhere that one of the biggest treasures in life is watching your children become assets in society and productive in God's kingdom. It's not so much their ability to make things happen as their interaction with other people. Our oldest works with kids in his spare time helping coach football. Our daughter has taken up photography and has the ability to capture treasures in a photo. You are welcome to see some of her treasures on her blog listed along the right side of this blog.
Four years ago this fall we accomplished one of Jan's dreams of having a cabin to get together with family in. One evening as Jan and I were viewing the progress before it was finished we prayed together that there would be folks we could share it with. Wow. Did God ever answer that prayer. It's a treasure to see folks enjoy there visit here and to create many lasting friendships. Below the Good News Chapel had a potluck and afternoon service last Sunday.
What a treasure to see young people stand up in their church and profess their faith in our Lord.
Sharing your talent during a worship service is a treasure as these two young folks did while home from college.
We have some gals in our church who do an extraordinary job of giving of their time and talents to enhance our worship musically. Thanks for the hard work girls.
At the end of the day what are your treasures? Dr. Luke says in chapter 12 that wherever your treasure is, their the desires of your heart will also be. Have a good week.
