Relaxing, Riding, Rook, Roping, Ranching, and Renergized

We arrived at our vacation spot near Waldon, Colorado last Sunday afternoon. This is the cabin we called home for a week. It sits on a ranch in the mountains at around 8600 feet elevation.
Since BJ and his family were pulling the trailer with the 4-wheelers he had to stop more often than the rest of us for fuel. One of those stops was along the interstate in Wyoming. Fortunately I had loaded highway fuel in the back of our pickup for just such an occasion.
This is a lunch stop along the way. Ezra, Elliott, and Zachary are eating their happy meal in the shade.
Becky asked if I would watch her kids while she went for supplies. Well, I watched them alright, see how much air they could get bouncing off the beds.
We put over 100 miles on our 4-wheelers for the week driving on the ranch and the surrounding trails in the mountains in the National Forests in the area.
Some of the guys helped rebuild a corral and check cattle while the girls took a shopping trip to Steamboat Springs.
Kurt and BJ helped bale some hay on the Bradford meadow, a 60 acre grass field at the entrance to the ranch.
This is an evening of getting acquainted with the horses and just taking in the beautiful scenery.
We spent a couple of evenings at our good friends Mark and Kim's home. They run the ranch. Mark showed the girls how to rope with a lariat. On the way home we stopped in Laramie, Wyoming and bought some used lariats. Since we've been home we have enjoyed practicing roping everything from the dog to grandkids.
Almost every night in our cabin a Rook game would get going. Although table talk wasn't supposed to happen between partners one memorable event  was when Kurt said to his partner, BJ, "let it rain", when he led with a card. After BJ laid his card Kurt said, "I didn't mean that hard".
Jan had asked me before we left if I would be very deliberate about devotions and I'm so glad she did. I'm sure it did me more good sharing than than the rest of the family listening. We talked about God's goodness, our families blessings, and using those blessings to serve others.
Even though we had heard from back home how hot it was and how much the crop was suffering I was renergized as we headed back home. I'm sure as you can tell from past blogs the drought has been on my mind. But as we prepare for our annual Customer Appreciation Supper in a week or so and then harvest in a couple weeks, who knows, we may just experience a miracle.
Thank you family from the bottom of my heart for the time we spent together and the fun we had.

Table talk always ends up with poker games in our family. Whenever grandpa, my father, my uncles, and my cousins are gathered in one table, we seem to end up playing poker while the ladies either stay with the kids to horseback ride or they enjoy chatting at the large outdoor patio. The ranch has a fully equipped kitchen, so the ladies help each other out cooking steaks, mashed potatoes with spicy herb sour cream, and corn on cobs =)
