Tough And Tender

As I reflect back on the past week I see there were tough moments and tender moments many times in the same event. This is Adi who went with me last Sunday to visit a friend on Mothers Day in an assisted living home. She loves Rosies mirrored closet doors.

We had a customer in Powshiek County who wanted some pastureland planted. The tough part was getting this outfit out of the mudhole. After an attempt with another large tractor a wrecker finally had to be called. The tender part of this story is no one was injured when a log chain broke and shattered the back window of the tractor trying to pull this out.

Elliot is having a tough time fishing. The only thing he caught was himself. The tender moment for me was wondering what his older brother Ezra is thinking while watching him.

Hitting the bucket while changing oil on this RoGator is a tough job because of all the obsticles under the motor. Have you ever wished a manufacturing engineer was around during one of these times? I can't think of any tender thoughts for this picture.

The kids came on a rainy Friday afternoon to help plant trees and plants for Jan for a belated Mother's Day present. The only tough part of this story was trying to find a spot by the fireplace to roast hotdogs.

This truck is in the bodyshop after rolling down a hill by itself and coming to a tough, abrupt stop. The tender part is the owner realizes it's just a truck and no one was hurt or even in it during the accident.

Saturday a number of us helped BJ assemble seven waterline grids for the geothermal heating and cooling part of his house. The tough part was getting the loops tied together at exactly the right width so it would fit in the trench dug by a 48 inch backhoe bucket. The tender part of this story is John, the contractor traded his heating and cooling work for tiling work done by BJ on the contractor's farm.

This Oriole likes Jan's meals as much as the rest of us do. Jan puts out orange halves and even ties a vine up the post so the birds have something to sit on.

My goal and prayer is that as I handle the tough and tender moments that come my way I may not always do it right or be successfull but that I will be faithful in those moments to my God, my family, my friends, and my farming occupation.
