Have you ever told yourself or someone else "well would you look at that" when you saw something unusual or interesting? This week's blog is an assortment of unique items that we came across this fall that you just don't see every day. Karl saw this hornet's nest as we were combining near Union Mills.
One day Mike was coming back from looking at a dozing job and noticed a young bobcat high in a tree near our house. The young cat had been chased up the tree by two neighbor dogs.
Mid Iowa Equipment invited us to a plowing get together they were having this past Saturday so I invited Gideon and John, two grandsons to go along to show them how tillage used to be done. We drove this 600hp Big Bud pulling an IHC 12 bottom plow. I hadn't molboard plowed for 35 years.
Have you ever been given directions from an old timer? Well yesterday I was putting on anhydrous east of Tieoga and needed directions to my next field. This fellow said, "Take old 21, after you cross the river a ways turn west, then drive to where the old church used to be and turn north. Your field is on the west side of that closed road." So I"m thinking to myself I wonder what the current name of old 21 is, how far is a ways, if the church is no longer there how will I know where it used to be, and finally if the road is closed can I use it? I found the field just fine. All that was left of the old church was a bell and this outhouse. If you look close you can see that it was a two holer with a wall in between. Does that mean this church used to have a men's and women's restroom?
Late yesterday afternoon just before this beautiful sunset I hear BJ call on the 2-way and say "hey dad, would you look at those sundogs over there?" Sundogs are two bright spots on both sides of the sun and usually mean a weather change.
This is Mark putting on anhydrous for next years crop. We were blessed with another very productive week. Solomon says in Ecclesiastics, "When you make a living and enjoy your work, this is a gift from God. You seldom reflect on the days of your lives because God keeps you occupied with the gladness of your heart." Well would you look at that, not much has changed in the last 3000 years.
